Rivers Residents Seek Police Help To Remove Decomposing Corpse

People residing at Eneka pipeline, along Eneka-Rumunduru road, have called for the immediate intervention of the Rivers State Police command to urgently facilitate the removal of a decomposing corpse of an unidentified young man believed to have stayed for over 5 days.

The residents expressed worry that the stench would poss severe danger to the health and safety of residents, especially school children assessing the environment.

The man who appeared to be in his late 30s was found at the pipeline adjacent Jen-Edith Special Science School, PH Boarding House. When TPCN correspondent visited the area on Tuesday, January 6, 2025, it was gathered that the young man was found lying lifeless on the ground.

Those who responded during the interview revealed that they had through social media handles made publications, drawing the attention of members of the public for possible identification by relatives of the deceased.

Speaking, Mrs Ego Ifeanyi explained that, “the thing is surprising to everybody. We just woke up and saw him lying there, no life and since then, no body has come to say he is my brother or he is my son.

“We put it on Facebook, we have been asking who knows him. Our challenge and fear now is that the smell is not good for our health, it is very, very harmful. Police should help us, they should help us so that our children will not be seeing it.”

Another resident, Mr Duru Uchenna said, “it is a pity that this young man just died like this and nobody has come to say I know him. We don’t know what happened to him but at least he deserves to be buried.

“I am not living here but I pass here everyday going to work. Seeing this thing breaks my heart, I begin to wonder what people that are living here are going there.

“Since no one has come to take him, the police should help so that they can remove him from here. It is not good for those living here, some are doing business and people are going to work. It is very dangerous.”

A native who also spoke, wondered why the corpse was yet to be removed. Mr Ikemba John noted that, “me I don’t know the person but still, for the good of everyone, for the safety of people, it is not supposed to stay long like this.

“Because of this I carry my children through paradise estate because I don’t want them to see this, even me, it’s doing mw somehow looking at this. They should please help us.
