Former Niger Delta agitator and traditional ruler, Asari Dokubo, has declared that he will work for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Dokubo made the statement while receiving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, at his palace in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State.
He said his decision was based on a long-standing personal relationship with the president, which began in 1992, before he became a traditional ruler. According to Dokubo, Tinubu supported him during a difficult period in his life.
“Everything that I am capable of doing, I will do to make sure that my friend, the President, succeeds,” Dokubo said. “He stood by me in my most difficult period, and it is now my turn to also stand by him.”
Dokubo added that he was not a traditional ruler when he first met Tinubu and had not anticipated attaining his current status.

Earlier, Wike explained that his visit formed part of his engagements across Rivers State since the Yuletide. He said the visit was to thank communities for their support and to extend New Year greetings.
Wike noted, “I know that traditional rulers don’t play politics. You are my friend, and there’s no way I would come to your kingdom without coming to greet you and say happy New Year.”
