President Tinubu Orders Security Forces to Hunt Terrorists Behind Deadly Niger State Attack

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued stern directives to Nigeria’s top security officials to relentlessly pursue and apprehend the terrorists responsible for the brutal attack on Kasuwan Daji community in Niger State’s Borgu Local Government Area.

On Saturday, January 3, 2026, armed bandits stormed the Kasuwan Daji market in Demo village, killing over 30 people—many of them women—and abducting numerous others, including children.

The attackers looted shops, carted away food items, and set the market ablaze, leaving the community in devastation.

The President directed the Minister of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, Inspector-General of Police, and Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to ensure the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.

This was contained in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), Bayo Onanuga. He also ordered an urgent rescue operation for all abducted victims.

President Tinubu strongly condemned the attack and the kidnapping of innocent women and children, extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the people of Niger State. He described the terrorists—suspected to be fleeing intensified operations in Sokoto and Zamfara following recent U.S.-supported airstrikes—as having “tested the resolve of our country and its people.”

“They must face the full consequences of their criminal actions. No matter who they are or what their intent is, they, and all those who aid or enable them, will be hunted down,” the President declared.

He assured residents that security agencies would ramp up operations in vulnerable areas, especially near forest hideouts. Calling for national unity, President Tinubu urged Nigerians to reject divisive rhetoric and stand together against terrorism.

“United, we can and must defeat them, deny them sanctuary, and reclaim peace for our communities,” he said.
