Fubara Appoints Five Special Advisers, Sets Swearing-In for Today

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, appointed five special advisers on Thursday. The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Honour Sirawoo.

He said the appointees included two former commissioners who previously served under the Fubara administration.

Those appointed were Barrister Eloka Tasie-Amadi, Professor Peter Medee, Barrister Emmanuel Fubara, Hon. Victor Ekaro, and Dr Darlington Oji.

Sirawoo stated that the governor would formally swear in the special advisers on Friday, January 2, 2026.

The ceremony would hold at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt, at exactly 12:00 noon. He added that the appointees were expected to be seated by 11:30 a.m.

The appointments came barely 72 hours after the governor carried out a minor cabinet reshuffle.

This newspaper had reported that Fubara redeployed the Commissioner for Sports, Barrister Christopher Green, to the Ministry of Justice as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.

Sirawoo said Green would continue to coordinate the activities of the Ministry of Sports pending the appointment of a substantive commissioner.

Meanwhile, this newspaper also reported that the Rivers State House of Assembly, during its first sitting after the emergency rule, asked the governor to forward the names of commissioner-nominees for screening and approval.

Despite the request, which has yet to be heeded, the lawmakers recently accused the governor of consistently drawing from the state’s Consolidated Revenue Account since assuming office in 2023 without legislative approval.

They said the action ignored repeated warnings and a Supreme Court judgment.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Petitions and Complaints, Hon. Enemi George, the lawmakers said the governor’s action amounted to a breach of the Constitution and the principle of separation of powers.
