Super Eagles Canes The Cranes Of Uganda

The Super Eagles preserved their perfect start to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after overpowering a stubborn Uganda side 3–1 on Monday at the Stade de Fez.

Nigeria broke the deadlock in the 28th minute when Paul Onuachu poked home from close range, reacting fastest to Dele-Bashiru’s cross after goalkeeper Onyango had parried the initial attempt. Uganda showed promise early on but could not convert their positive play into a goal.

The match swung decisively in Nigeria’s favour shortly after the interval. Substitute goalkeeper Salim Magoola was dismissed in the 56th minute for handling the ball outside his area while preventing a clear goal-scoring chance.

With a numerical edge, Nigeria tightened their grip on the contest. Raphael Onyedika struck twice within five minutes, scoring in the 62nd and 67th minutes, both goals created by Samuel Chukwueze, to give the Super Eagles a commanding lead.

Uganda reduced the deficit in the 75th minute when Rogers Mato calmly finished over Francis Uzoho, offering brief hope for the 10-man Cranes. However, Nigeria remained in control for the remainder of the match.

Late substitutions saw Nigeria introduce Zaidu Sanusi, Tochukwu Nnadi and Akor Adams, while Uganda turned to Jude Ssemugabi in search of inspiration.

The result keeps Nigeria firmly at the summit of Group B with maximum points, while Uganda now face a difficult path to qualification despite their resilience. In the group’s other encounter, Tunisia and Tanzania settled for a 1–1 draw in Rabat, leaving the standings delicately balanced
