The Vice-Chancellor of Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, Professor Isaac Zeb-Obipi, on Monday, December 29, 2025, was conferred with the traditional title of Eze Obutor I of Ancient Ahoada Kingdom.
The honour was bestowed on him by His Royal Majesty, King Noble Friday Uwoh, the Paramount Ruler of Ancient Ahoada Kingdom, during a colourful ceremony attended by chiefs, elders, and community members.
Speaking at the event, the monarch explained that the conferment recognised Prof. Zeb-Obipi’s outstanding leadership as Vice-Chancellor and his role in bringing development to Ahoada through the establishment of the university’s satellite campus in the area.
King Uwoh noted that the campus has significantly boosted education, employment, and socio-economic growth in the host community, describing the title as a fitting tribute to the VC’s contributions.
In his acceptance speech, Prof. Zeb-Obipi expressed deep appreciation to the king, chiefs, and people of Ancient Ahoada Kingdom for the rare honour.
He described the title as a profound call to greater responsibility and dedicated service, adding that it would inspire him to continue serving God and humanity with renewed vigour.
The Vice-Chancellor said his family, community, and the entire Rivers State University community were thrilled by the gesture, which reinforces the strong ties between the institution and its host communities.
The event featured cultural displays, tributes from dignitaries and celebrations.
