Building Places of Worship Is A Divine Privilege – Ngozi Odu

Deputy Governor of Rivers State

Rivers State Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, has described the construction of a place of worship as a rare privilege and honour bestowed by God, drawing parallels to the biblical roles of King David and King Solomon. She made the remark on Sunday, December 28, 2025, during the dedication of a new auditorium for the Assemblies of God Church in Akabuka community, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA).

Prof. Odu particularly commended Dr. Andrew Igwe, the sole sponsor of the project, for his remarkable generosity in acquiring the land and erecting the modern church building. She also highlighted his broader philanthropic efforts, including scholarships and support for hundreds of individuals in the community.

The Deputy Governor urged members of the congregation and attendees to emulate Dr. Igwe’s example, noting that even modest contributions to God’s work carry great spiritual reward. “This church is more than a building,” she said. “It represents hope, unity, spiritual renewal, healing, and a lasting source of blessing and inspiration for the Akabuka community.”

She thanked the church leadership and charged the congregation to take full ownership of the facility, ensuring its maintenance and preservation for future generations. Delivering the sermon titled “God Will Honour Those Who Honour Him,” based on 1 Samuel 2:30, the National Treasurer of Assemblies of God Nigeria, Rev. Gabriel Michael, stressed that God rewards those who honour Him while rejecting those who despise Him.Rev. Michael lamented that some people, including leaders and politicians, misuse resources on ungodly pursuits instead of glorifying God.

He praised Dr. Igwe for choosing to honour God through the church project. In his remarks, Dr. Andrew Igwe, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of the Dr. Andrew A. Igwe Care Foundation, revealed that the auditorium was built and fully equipped at his personal expense in response to a divine instruction received the previous year. He said the project, which took 19 months to complete, was made possible by God’s faithful provision, describing its realisation as “a great miracle.” Dr. Igwe expressed profound gratitude for the grace to see the vision through to dedication.
