Rivers Lawmakers Host Wike, Laud Ex-Governor’s Legacy

Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, on Saturday 27 December 2025 hosted the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, at the Assembly Quarters in Port Harcourt, in a warm display of appreciation for his enduring support and leadership.

Welcoming the minister, Amaewhule expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the lawmakers, highlighting Wike’s interventions during his tenure as governor that continue to enhance their welfare.

He praised the well-maintained Assembly Quarters as a lasting testament to Wike’s vision, noting that the facilities provide comfort and stability envied by legislators in other states.

“Your Excellency, we simply want to say thank you for these provisions and the valuable assets you left behind. Many of our colleagues elsewhere lack such amenities, and we remain proud,” Amaewhule said.

He described Wike as a father figure, given the positive impact of his support, and revealed plans to expand the quarters to include more amenities, reducing reliance on hotels for official functions and improving the legislature’s environment.

In response, Wike emphasised that true leadership stems from courage, integrity, and consistency, rather than wealth or position.

He urged politicians to honour agreements and shun hypocrisy, stating, “If you cannot keep an agreement, do not enter into it. Standing by your word brings peace and stability.”

The minister stressed gratitude, unity, and loyalty in politics, while reaffirming his backing for President Bola Tinubu. He called on the lawmakers to stay united, vigilant, and committed to quality representation for Rivers people, assuring them of his ongoing support.

The event, attended by political leaders from across the state and beyond, underscored the strong ties between Wike and the assembly members.
