The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, has commended the Chairman of Emohua Local Government Council, Dr. Chidi Lloyd, for his exceptional understanding of governance and commitment to grassroots development.
Amaewhule made the remarks on Monday while commissioning a 1.2-kilometre asphalt road on Npova Street in Iba community, Emohua Local Government Area.He praised Lloyd for transforming democratic dividends into tangible projects, noting that the chairman’s leadership has brought stability and progress to the area.
“Dr. Chidi Lloyd is one man who understands what governance is all about,” Amaewhule said, revealing that he succeeded Lloyd as Majority Leader in the House and learned valuable lessons from him.The Speaker thanked Emohua residents for their unwavering support for Lloyd, which he said has bolstered the council’s performance.
He highlighted the Assembly’s role in ensuring transparent local government elections across the state’s 23 councils.Amaewhule described the road project as a rare feat among Nigeria’s 774 local governments, evidence of prudent resource management. He attributed increased funding for state and local projects to President Bola Tinubu’s fuel subsidy removal, stressing the need for judicious application of funds.

The Speaker pledged continued legislative support for Emohua, including lawmaking and oversight.He urged citizens to pray for President Tinubu, whom he described as well-meaning for Rivers State and Nigeria, commending federal interventions like the East-West Road reconstruction and over 40 Rivers appointees in the Federal Government, including the historic South-South Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
Amaewhule who later visited the palace of Npova Kingdom, was accompanied by lawmakers including Hon. Bernard Ngbar (Tai), Hon. Justina Emeji (Deputy Minority Whip), Hon. Emilia Amadi (Obio/Akpor 2), Hon. Gerald Oforji (Oyigbo), Hon. Ofiks Kabang (Deputy Whip), and Minority Leader Hon. Sylvanus Nwankwo.
