Obio/Akpor LGA Rings in Christmas Spirit with Traditional Carol of Nine Lessons

The Obio/Akpor Local Government Area yesterday 19 December 2025 hosted its annual Christmas Carol of Nine Lessons at the Council Secretariat in Rumuodomaya, drawing council officials, party leaders, staff, and residents in a heartfelt celebration of worship, thanksgiving, and renewed hope.

In his address, Council Chairman Hon. Dr. Gift Worlu emphasised the unity of Obio/Akpor’s people under God, declaring that “with God on our side, nothing can stand in our way.”

He described the service as a commemoration of Jesus Christ’s birth, which reconciled humanity to God, and urged gratitude for life, health, families, communities, Rivers State, Nigeria, and the world.

Hailing 2025 as a “watershed year” marking a shift from negativity to positivity, Dr. Worlu expressed strong optimism for 2026. “One with God is a majority,” he said, assuring attendees that the coming year would surpass the outgoing one.

He prayed for divine help to achieve greater things in the new year, solely for God’s glory, adding that “the Obio/Akpor journey has just begun and will surely end in praise.”

The service featured traditional Bible readings. The Fourth Lesson (Isaiah 11:1-4a, 6-9), on righteousness, peace, and divine wisdom, was read by Head of Local Government Administration Mr. Sunny Adibe Nyeche.

Vice Chairman Hon. Dr. Mrs. Joyce Gloria Nyeche delivered the Seventh Lesson (Genesis 22:15-18), highlighting God’s covenant of blessings through obedience.
Mrs. Flora Gift Worlu, wife of the chairman, read the Eighth Lesson (Genesis 3:8-15), recounting the fall of man and God’s promise of redemption.

PDP Chairman in Obio/Akpor, Hon. Innocent Paddy Wali, proclaimed the Ninth Lesson (John 1:1-7), affirming Christ as the Word, Light, and source of life.

Filled with hymns, prayers, and reflection, the event concluded with intercessions for peace, unity, and prosperity in Obio/Akpor, Rivers State, and Nigeria. Attendees left with renewed faith and anticipation for the year ahead.
