Opobo/Nkoro LGA Boosts Power Supply with New 33kV Line, Central Metering Panel

In a move to enhance electricity management and reliability, the administration of Hon. James A. James, Executive Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area in Rivers State, has kicked off the installation of a 33kV power line and a Central Metering Panel.

The project, aimed at strengthening power accountability and service efficiency across the LGA, introduces a centralized postpaid energy measurement system. This will enable precise monitoring of electricity supplied via the 33kV feeder, effectively eliminating fragmented billing and compound-based complaints that have long plagued residents.

With the shift from prepaid to postpaid metering, power distribution is now fully centralized, promising better coordination, greater transparency, and more dependable supply. Residents and stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, noting it will significantly improve electricity access during the festive season and beyond.

The intervention is expected to support households, local businesses, and community activities, while establishing a sustainable framework for energy management in the area.

The project underscores the chairman’s focus on modernizing infrastructure to deliver tangible benefits to the people.

Hon. James’ administration has reiterated its commitment to reliable electricity and improved public services, describing the development as a key milestone in uplifting living standards in Opobo/Nkoro.

As work progresses, locals express optimism that the upgraded system will reduce outages and disputes over billing, fostering economic growth in this riverine community.

This latest effort aligns with broader calls for enhanced power infrastructure in Rivers State, where erratic supply remains a challenge for many LGAs.
