The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the display of the preliminary register of voters across registration centres in the 23 local government areas of Rivers State, paving the way for claims and objections.
Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt on Monday 15 December 2025, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Gabriel Yomere, represented by the Administrative Secretary, Dr. Angela Ebhodaghe, disclosed that a total of 99,885 persons have so far registered in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
Dr. Ebhodaghe noted that Gokana Local Government Area recorded the highest number of new registrants, with over 10,000 persons, while Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area had the lowest, with only 295 new voters in this first phase.

Professor Yomere emphasised that the display of the preliminary register provides citizens the opportunity to correct erroneous name entries, remove names of deceased persons, and address other inaccuracies in the voter list.
He urged residents to take advantage of the exercise, warning that the window for claims and objections will close on December 21, 2025.
The INEC chief further announced that the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration is scheduled to commence on January 5, 2026.
The commission called on political parties, civil society organisations, and members of the public to actively participate in the verification process to ensure the credibility and accuracy of the voters’ register ahead of future elections.
INEC reiterated its commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections in Rivers State and across the federation.
