The Joint Revenue Board (JRB) has backed the ongoing tax reforms of the Federal Government and called on security agencies to eliminate unauthorized roadblocks that are utilized for collecting illegal taxes and levies nationwide.
This stance was detailed in a communiqué released following the 158th meeting of the board, which took place on December 9 and 10 in Abuja, and was signed by Zacch Adedeji, the board’s chairman, and Olusegun Adesokan, the board’s executive secretary.
The meeting was held against a backdrop of persistent pressures on governmental revenues as Nigeria continues to face challenges with sluggish growth in non-oil revenues and increasing expenditure requirements.

During the meeting, the board reviewed its transition from the Joint Tax Board to the Joint Revenue Board and the implications this shift has for revenue management at both national and local levels.
The board praised the federal government for what it termed significant fiscal and tax policy reforms, highlighting that these measures have the potential to boost revenue mobilization, enhance economic competitiveness, and support fiscal sustainability, while also reducing the cost of conducting business.
