Rivers State Former Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo, has publicly thrown his support behind Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s decision to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the development as courageous and a step that could reshape the political direction of Rivers State in the coming months.
In a goodwill message issued on Tuesday, Ambassador Ihunwo described the governor’s defection as a pivotal moment in the political future of Rivers State, stressing that the people of Obio/Akpor remain firmly behind him as he begins what he called a new chapter of political realignment.
He noted that the governor’s decision would deepen democratic participation and open fresh opportunities for development and partnership between the state and the Federal Government led by the APC.
According to him, the move also reflects Governor Fubara’s resolve to protect the interest of the state, despite recent political tensions. “Your bold move has our total backing, and we believe it will further strengthen the democratic structure and usher in a new chapter of development for our dear state,” Ihunwo said.

He added that leaders and stakeholders of Obio/Akpor would continue to mobilise grassroots support to ensure a smooth transition and consolidation of the new political direction.
Reaffirming his confidence in Governor Fubara’s leadership, Ambassador Ihunwo pledged continued loyalty and collaboration, noting that political unity at this time would contribute to peace, good governance and sustainable development for Rivers State as it aligns with the APC at the national level.
