Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has firmly dismissed widespread rumours of a fallout with federal and state lawmakers from the state, describing such claims as completely baseless.
Speaking on Wednesday during the commissioning of the newly extended and dualised 28.4-kilometre Ahoada–Omoku Road, Governor Fubara said reports suggesting he was avoiding the legislators were false. He revealed that plans were already in motion for a reconciliation meeting, to be facilitated by his predecessor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, elder statesman Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, and other prominent leaders.
“Anyone saying I refused to meet the lawmakers or rejected any proposal concerning them is not telling the truth,” Fubara stated emphatically.
The event came just a day after the governor formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Addressing thousands of supporters, Fubara explained that his switch to the ruling party was not driven by personal ambition but by a sincere desire to restore lasting peace in Rivers State and guarantee uninterrupted development.
“I did not join APC for myself. I did it so that Rivers State can have peace and move forward without distractions,” he said.
He urged residents to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the state government, warning against divisive politics that could derail progress. “Stay steadfast. Support Mr President and support your state government. Together, we will deliver the dividends of democracy,” Fubara appealed.

Highlighting his administration’s commitment despite political challenges, the governor pointed to the Ahoada–Omoku dual carriageway as proof of keeping campaign promises. He recalled pledging during the 2023 electioneering, alongside then-Governor Wike, that the long-abandoned road would be completed under a Tinubu presidency and his own governorship.
The newly commissioned road is expected to significantly ease transportation, boost trade, and improve the socio-economic wellbeing of communities in the Ahoada and Omoku axis.
Governor Fubara assured the people that several other legacy projects are in the pipeline, reaffirming that his administration remains focused on transforming Rivers State irrespective of political realignments.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by traditional rulers, community leaders, APC chieftains, and enthusiastic residents who trooped out in large numbers to celebrate the milestone.
