Rivers Command Recovers Stolen Car, Intensifies Manhunt for Accomplices

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with a stolen Toyota Corolla in Port Harcourt, as part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on vehicle theft and related crimes in the state.

A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the suspects were apprehended on November 7, 2025, around 8:00am by a joint team of operatives from the Electronic Central Motor Registry (ECMR) and the Special Operations and Intelligence Team (SOIT).

According to the statement, the operatives recovered the stolen vehicle—a Toyota Corolla with registration number PHC 626 TX, after a formal ownership complaint was lodged by an officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Rivers Sector Command.

The vehicle, verified as belonging to Prof. Karibo Bagshaw, was reportedly stolen in December 2024 from his daughter by a former bolt driver.

The arrested suspects were identified as: Christian Ihuigwe, John Ebus and Barnabas. All are residents of Port Harcourt.

Police noted that the suspects and the recovered exhibit have been transferred to the Special Investigation Department for further forensic analysis, in line with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju.

The Command said efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional accomplices who are currently at large.

CP Adepoju commended the investigative operatives for their diligence and urged members of the public to provide useful information that can help curb crime in the state.

The suspects, according to the police, will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
