AGN Suspends Actor Over Assault

Veteran actor Taye Arimoro has been indefinitely suspended by the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) following a now-viral on-set blowout with filmmaker and actress Peggy Ovire.

In an unprecedented show of unity, the three most powerful bodies in Nigerian cinema—the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), and the Association of Movie Producers (AMP)—have made their judgement, issuing a joint statement that well describes the incident.

The plot thickens beyond a simple heated argument. The guilds’ investigation alleges that the confrontation turned physical, with the statement claiming Arimoro “physically assaulted the production manager” during the fracas. This serious accusation forms the core of his suspension.

They also launched a direct assault on Arimoro’s public version of events, which he had detailed in earlier interviews and posts. The collective statement bluntly dismissed his account as “false and misleading,” adding a layer of intrigue to the already sensational story.

AGN has issued a strict directive, stating that Arimoro must craft a public apology and deliver it on the same social media and media platforms he used to tell his side of the story, and must be specifically addressed to the production manager Peggy Ovire and director Frederick Atigogo.

The guilds also “reprimanded” Peggy Ovire for “escalating the situation” and handed down their own mandate, that she must submit a written apology to the AGN and the estate management.
