My Father Regretted Sending Me To School- Sabinus


‎Nigerian comedian Emmanuel Ejekwu, popularly known as Sabinus, has shared how his father initially disapproved of his journey into comedy.

‎Speaking in an interview, Saturday, 29 November 2025, the skit maker said his dad strongly wanted him to become a lawyer.

‎Sabinus explained that he tried several times to gain admission to study Law but failed.

‎ He later settled for Linguistics and Communication Studies at the University of Port Harcourt.

‎According to him, it was during his time on campus that he discovered his talent for comedy and began making skits, even though he was not earning money at the time.

‎The comedian revealed that he kept his comedy career hidden from his father throughout his university years.

‎However, one year after graduation, his father began seeing his face on posters for comedy shows. When his sisters confirmed that he was indeed doing comedy, his father became angry and expressed disappointment.

‎Sabinus recalled his father’s reaction, saying the older man described comedy as a “stupid business” and questioned why his son did not become the lawyer he had hoped for.

‎He added that his father even regretted funding his education at that point.

‎Despite the tension, Sabinus said things later changed in bed I’m when he began making money from comedy. He started gifting his father money from his earnings, and with time, his father accepted and supported his career fully.

‎The comedian noted that his father eventually gave him his blessings after seeing how successful he had become.
