Rivers PMAN Governor Exposes Illegal Gospel Faction Backed by Suspended National President

In a scathing public statement issued, Comrade Moses Olusegun Mabadeje (aka Mozy B.), the duly elected Governor of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) Rivers State Chapter, has accused a group of dissident gospel musicians of attempting to tear apart the union by operating an illegal parallel structure under the guise of Christian piety.

The nine individuals named as ringleaders of the outlawed faction are:
Mercy Reginald Otuene (Sista Mercy), John Egwin Nwokorie (Jahvest), Uche Willy Thompson (Utunee) ,Dr. Joy Nwenenda Nwachukwu (Joyvlissful), Victor Effiong (Maestro Vic), Asinye Brown, Augustine Ovan Gomba (G1)
Joseph Worlu, Ukot Flag Prince (Flag P).

According to Comrade Mabadeje, the so-called “PMAN Gospel Unit” was a creation of the immediate past Sole Administrator, Mr. Gbenga Olowu, and was formally dissolved in May 2025 – three months after Mabadeje’s landslide election in February 2025 – with written endorsement from the authentic National President, Chief Fruitful Makwonye.

“Shockingly,” Mabadeje stated, “these same individuals have now resurrected their defunct group by aligning themselves with Mr. Pretty Okafor, the suspended National President of PMAN, who remains barred from holding any position in the union following a subsisting judgment of the National Industrial Court in Lagos.”
Sources within PMAN confirmed that Okafor’s suspension remains in force, rendering any action or endorsement he issues legally void.

The Rivers governor described the faction’s tactics as a cynical exploitation of religious sentiment: “It is particularly disheartening that those who parade themselves as gospel ministers and born-again Christians are the very ones sowing seeds of division and instability in an association that has finally begun to enjoy peace and progress.”

Mabadeje revealed that several previous attempts by the same elements to lure secular artists into rival factions were rebuffed, leaving the gospel wing as the last bastion willing to lend legitimacy to what he branded “a fraudulent enterprise.”

In a direct appeal, he called on Pastor Lanre Teriba of House on the Rock and other prominent clergymen in Rivers State to rein in members of their congregations involved in the crisis, urging them to choose godly conduct over union politics.

The PMAN Rivers leadership has issued a stern caution to the Rivers State Government, local government chairmen, members of the State House of Assembly, corporate organisations, media houses, and private entities to immediately cease all dealings with the named individuals and their illegal platform.

“Any transaction, sponsorship, endorsement, or recognition extended to these impostors will be regarded as aiding illegality and fraud,” the statement warned.

Closing his address, Comrade Mabadeje rallied musicians across the state: “This is not my personal fight; it is our collective battle. For too long we have allowed opportunists to fractionalise and weaken PMAN. Only in unity can we end this shameful cycle once and for all.”

He concluded with the plea, “Let peace reign. Let love lead.” As the crisis deepens, stakeholders in the Rivers entertainment industry are watching closely to see whether the dissident gospel faction will heed the warnings or push the union toward another round of costly legal and public confrontations.
