Rivers Chief Judge Urges Criminal Justice Actors to Embrace New Web Solution Technology

Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Amadi, has called on criminal justice administrators, stakeholders, and institutions to fully embrace the newly introduced web-based and Android application designed to transform justice administration in the state.

Justice Amadi who was represented by Justice Constance Green stated this during a one-day training and validation workshop on the Rivers State Criminal Justice Management System (RSCJMS), organised by the Rivers State Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Council (ACJMC) in Port Harcourt.

He explained that the innovation was developed to enhance compliance with the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) and provide seamless monitoring and evaluation of activities across the criminal justice sector. According to him, the technology will allow criminal justice institutions to record and transmit real-time data without disrupting their internal administrative processes.

Justice Amadi said the system would eliminate bottlenecks such as delays in reporting, transportation challenges, and loss of critical case information, thereby enabling a more data-driven and accountable justice process.

Executive Secretary of the ACJMC, Chief Magistrate Ilanye Brown, said the solution was developed after the Council observed recurring challenges in monitoring compliance across justice institutions.

She noted that the web and mobile applications would address the lack of tools, inadequate reporting systems, and frequent delays that weaken effective justice delivery.

Brown added that the technology will promote transparency, accountability, quick reporting, and better evaluation of criminal cases, including tracking repeat offenders and ensuring proper documentation of criminal records.

Participants, including ACP Babatunde Jimoh of the State CID and human rights consultant Daniel Ejii, described the initiative as timely and capable of significantly reducing file misplacement, improving monitoring, and speeding up justice administration.

They urged the state government to sustain the innovation, noting that Rivers State is the first in Nigeria to introduce such a comprehensive digital justice monitoring system.
