Following mass defection rocking the People’s Democratic Party, PDP the party has given assurance that it will bounce back as the leading opposition party in the nation.
The former Rivers State PDP chairman, Dr. Robinson Ewor who made this assertion in an interview with journalists said despite the challenges the party is facing, it would still pick up the pieces and forge ahead.
Reacting on the suspension of the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike and secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu for anti-party activities, Dr. Ewor said the action taken by the party was in line with the party’s constitution.
“The FCT minister and Anyanwu and others have been involved in anti- party activities over the years not just this year.
In 2023 during the presidential election, the FCT minister did not support the presidential candidate of PDP and today on national TV both in private and public discussion he made it clear he would support the current president which is APC.
That is against the constitution of the party which says if a member involve in anti- party activity the party should apply sanction . The party applied sanction during the convention that expelled him,” he explained.
Dr. Ewor accused the FCT minister for resulting to self-help by masterminding the invasion of the national headquarters of the party in Abuja.
Dr. Ewor urged President Bola Tinubu to call Nyesom Wike in order before he destroys democratic principles. “I would go further to call on the president to take a closer look at what is happening at the PDP headquarters.
If the FCT minister is doing this and he keeps quiet what it means is that he is the enabler and part of what the FCT minister is doing because he had the authority, the right to call the FCT minister to order.
But he is not doing it. The president is in the position to ensure that order is restored at the PDP headquarters but he is not doing it,” he lamented.

He emphasized that the PDP would field presidential candidate come 2027 elections despite those frustrating the efforts of the party.
“But PDP as a political party had every right to field candidate in the 2027 presidential election. The PDP does not belong to the FCT minister, it is not a sole proprietorship, not a one man business, not his party, and PDP is not emiloko.
PDP is a party owned by Nigerians, PDP has a convention,NEC, NWC, BOT, Nigeria Governors Forum. It is not one man’s party or FCT minister’ s party.
If it is his party he can decide not to field a candidate, PDP will field candidates in 2027 general election,” he concluded.
The former Rivers State PDP chairman described the internal crises in the party as challenges political parties face noting that PDP is not an exception.
