The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) committee wishes to ensure that only deserving players make the final cut.
One of NFF’s top officials on Thursday said, “There is an urgent need to reorganize the national team; we need younger and more committed players to be playing for Nigeria.
“We can no longer be carrying on with players who are struggling for game time at their clubs; players for the Super Eagles have to be playing regularly for their clubs.”
Based on this urgent attention, it is claimed that Eric Chelle is expected to fly into Abuja for this meeting, which will be before the 2025 AFCON training camp opens on December 10.
Before, NFF’s recent reaction to Super Eagle squad, Ike Shorunmu, former Super Eagles goalkeeper, called on the NFF to begin immediate preparations for the forthcoming African Cup of Nations, following the national team’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria were axed out on a World Cup spot after a penalty shootout defeat to DR Congo in the CAF play-offs. This actually sealed Nigeria’s absence from consecutive World Cups after also missing the 2022 edition in Qatar.
While the former Super Eagle goalkeeper Shorunmu was speaking to Footy-Africa, he urged football authorities to respond decisively to the setback by strengthening the team’s structure and setting clear plans ahead of the next major tournament.
In his words, he said, “I hope the Nigerian Football Federation will think ahead of time and come up with a solid plan for the team, starting with the Africa Cup of Nations,” he said. “What has happened is gone now, and we have to start thinking of the way forward for Nigerian football.”
At the moment, the nation’s attention is now shifted to AFCON 2025, where Nigeria will play all its group matches at the Fez Stadium. The tournament fixture has it that the Super Eagles of Nigeria will open their campaign against Tanzania on December 23, before facing Tunisia on December 27 and Uganda on December 30 as they pursued a fourth continental title.
