The Federal Government(FG) has expressed its commitment to strengthening its longstanding partnership with the People’s Republic of China to enhance Nigeria’s road infrastructure and improve the technical capacity of local engineers, according to Minister of State for Works, Barr. Mohammed Goronyo.
Goronyo made this known during a meeting with a senior delegation from CGGC Global Plc at his office in Abuja.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mohammed Ahmed, the minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to advancing road development through improved technical expertise, adoption of modern engineering standards, and strict compliance with the global best practices.

He outlined key areas where collaboration with China would be instrumental, including:
• Training opportunities for Nigerian engineers in China,
• Provision of modern equipment for road construction and maintenance, and
• Transfer of advanced road technologies and engineering methods to support ensure local adaptation and sustainability.
Responding to the proposals, CGGC Vice President, Mr. He Yongjun, expressed the company’s “strong interest” in contributing to Nigeria’s infrastructure development. However, he requested more direct access to project opportunities, noting concerns about participating under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework—Nigeria’s officially sanctioned and transparent model for government contract engagement.
The delegation was received by the Minister of State, alongside senior ministry officials, the Director of Human Resource Management representing the Permanent Secretary, and the Managing Director of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Engr. Dr. Chukwuemeka Agbasi, who attended with other top FERMA personnel.
CGGC’s team included Vice President He Yongjun, Security Director Song Yunwu, Africa Marketing Director Tian Yimeng, Project Management Director Peng Changbing, and other senior executives.
