Tiktok Users Empowered To Reduce AI Content On Feeds

Tiktok is rolling out a new feature that will allow users to control how much AI-generated content they see on their feeds. This update comes as the platform confirmed that more than 1.3 billion videos‎ currently on Tiktok are tagged as AI-generated.

‎The feature, which is being tested over the coming weeks before a global release, follows the rapid rise of new AI video tools such as OpenAI’s Sora and Google’s Veo 3. These tools have contributed to a surge in AI-created videos across social media platforms.

‎Reports from Tuesday, November 11, reveaed that concerns were already raised in August after it was discovered that nearly 10% of the fastest-growing YouTube channels rely entirely on AI-generated videos-many of which fall into the category of “AI slop,” a phrase used to describe low-quality, mass-produced and often incoherent content.

Jade Nester, TikTok’s European Director of Public Policy for Safety and Privacy, said the new feature is designed to put more control in the hands of users. According to her, “many people enjoy AI-assisted content-from digital art to scientific storytelling-so we want to give users the choice to tailor how much of it they see.”

‎The new control option will available under the ”Manage Topic”section of Tiktok settings. Users wil be able to either reduce or increase their exposure to AI-generated content, similar to filters already available for topics like fashion, beauty, dance and current affairs.

‎TikTok reiterated its stance on safety, emphasizing that creators must label realistic AI content. The platform prohibits harmful deepfakes involving public figures or crisis situations, and any unlabeled realistic AI video may be taken down under community guidlines.
