The ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation is set to launch an Artificial Intelligence chatbox developed entirely in the Hausa language, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen technological innovation in the state.
Commissioner of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Yusuf Kofarmata, announced on Monday during the opening of the 2025 Annual Science, Technology and Innovation Week, held at the mimnistry in Kano.
According to him, the ministry conceptualized the idea of a Hausa-based AI tool and subsequently engaged experts to develop the mobile application. He revealed that the project is nearing completion, and a formal launch date will soon be announced by Governor Abba Yusuf.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Dr. Kofarmata noted that this year’s celebration alligns with the national theme: “Trust, Transformation and Tomorrow: The science we need for 2050.”
He described the theme as a call for renewed trust between science and society, and a commitment toward a sustainable scientific future. He explained that the science weeks aims to inspire young people to explore scientific innovation and showcase the creative potential within kano’s schools and communities.
He added that the event goes beyond ceremony, serving as “a dynamic platform for engagement, creativity, and strategic collaboration” involving government, academia, and the private sector.
The commisioner highlighted the lineup of activities for the week, including expert presentations, students’ exhibitions, debates, quizzes and award ceremonies. He also expressed appreciation to the Governor for his consistent support and commended the ministry’s staff and partners for their dedication.
Addressing students participating in the event, Dr. Kofarmata encouraged them to embrace innovation, saying: “This is your stage. The future we envision for 2050 lies in your minds and your hands. We are relying on you to drive the future.”
