Reports say the trouble began when two opposing groups, the Nyesom Wike-backed faction and the newly formed National Working Committee (NWC) led by Kabiru Turaki fixed separate meetings at the Wadata Plaza secretariat on the same day.

Tensions rose further when Samuel Anyanwu, national secretary of the Wike-aligned faction, arrived with his group for their scheduled Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings.

As supporters clashed and tempers flared, police struggled to control the situation which led Officers to order everyone, including senior party figures, to leave the premises.
