Court to Rule on Bail for Man Accused of Daughter’s Defilement

Court

A Rivers State Family Court sitting in Port Harcourt has fixed November 27, 2025, for ruling on the bail application of Kingsley Nnanna-Obilor, who is facing trial for allegedly defiling his three-year-old daughter.

Nnanna-Obilor pleaded not guilty to a one-count charge of defilement. His counsel, J.U. Ugwu, applied for bail on grounds of ill health and other mitigating circumstances.

However, the Chief Prosecution Counsel, Precious Ordi, from the Rivers State Ministry of Justice, opposed the bail application, citing the gravity of the offence and alleged threats to the life of the complainant following the suspect’s arrest and detention.

Presiding Judge, Justice Ben Whyte, after listening to both parties, adjourned the case to November 27 for ruling on the bail application and continuation of trial. The adjournment followed the testimony of the suspect’s wife, who is also the mother of the victim, alleging that her husband committed the crime.

Speaking to our correspondent, the Director of the Good Samaritan Foundation for Social Welfare, Eseogenen Aboze, explained that the organization was alerted about the incident and worked with relevant authorities to ensure the arrest and prosecution of the suspect.

Aboze, who also serves as the Child and Gender Officer for civil society organizations in the state, called on the National Assembly to expedite the passage of stronger laws prescribing the death penalty for defilement and rape, to serve as a deterrent to offenders.
