PHED Makes Strides in Metering, Reaches 60%

Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution (PHED) PLC announced on November 12, 2025, that 60 per cent of its customers now have meters. The coverage spans Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states.

Managing Director Ete Pinnick revealed the progress during a customer engagement forum held on November 11, 2025, in Port Harcourt. He highlighted ongoing dedication to enhance service delivery.

Pinnick detailed that over 18,000 new meters were allocated for rollout under phase two of the Meter Acquisition Fund scheme, launched in October 2025.

The company targets full metering for all users. “We aim to meter every customer through sustained efforts. This remains our priority.

“Extensive installation occurs daily. Post-paid billing ends under my vision.

“Current work covers 85,000 meters. The initiative concludes with around 135,000 units installed. Phase one, completed in June 2025, delivered 10,000 meters. Phase two, started in September 2025, provides 16,000,” he explained.

Pinnick recognised sector challenges. PHED pursues integrity-driven service improvements.

“This forum, convened on November 11, 2025, collects customer input. Insights guide collaborative enhancements,” he noted.

Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC initiated phase two of free prepaid meter distribution on November 2, 2025. The effort operates under Tranche B of the Meter Acquisition Fund program.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission oversees the initiative. It addresses metering gaps and eliminates estimated billing.

Notably, Corporate Communications Head Emeka Ezeh confirmed on November 11, 2025, that Tranche B targets unmetered band A feeder customers across the South-East.

It bears mentioning that Ezeh stated that 13,335 customers, including those from subsidiaries, gained meters. The phase kicked off on November 2, 2025, with Know Your Customer validation.
