Super Eagles Boycott WCQ Training

News reaching us indicates that the Super Eagles players have boycotted a crucial World Cup Qualifier training session due to long standing unpaid bonuses. It was alleged that both players and members of the technical crew refused to take part in the important training ahead of Thursday’s decisive World Cup qualification match against Gabon, citing frustration over unpaid entitlements dating as far back as 2019.

According to reports, the players expressed deep disappointment, stating that they were tired of continuous promises from the authorities that never materialize. They emphasized that they have shown great commitment and patriotism over the years, but the constant neglect of their welfare has become unbearable. The boycott comes at a time when millions of Nigerians are counting on the Super Eagles to perform excellently and secure qualification, not only as one of the best teams in Africa but also to advance strongly into the intercontinental playoffs for a spot in the World Cup.

This controversy erupted barely a day after one of the Super Eagles players posted a video on social media showing the deplorable condition of the hotel where the team was lodged. The footage, which quickly went viral, exposed the substandard facilities and poor environment, sparking widespread criticism of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). The player did not utter a word in the video, but the visuals were powerful enough to convey the team’s frustrations and dissatisfaction.

As this situation continues to unfold, all eyes are now on the NFF to see how it will address the matter. Any further failure or distraction in the team’s preparation could seriously affect Nigeria’s qualification chances, and ultimately, the blame would rest squarely on the shoulders of the football authorities.
