Peter Obi Slams FG Over Super Eagles Saga

The former Governor of Anambra State Peter Obi, on Wednesday, 12th of November slammed the federal government over the reported boycott of training by the Super Eagles of Nigeria amid Thursday’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff against Gabon.

‎The report has it that the former Labour Party presidential candidate, posted on his X account (formerly known as Twitter) on Wednesday, expressing his bitterness— that players representing Nigeria were being owed allowances despite their consistent service to the nation.

‎On his social media page, he posted; “It is truly unfortunate that our Super Eagles who consistently give their best in representing our dear nation, are being owed their allowances,”

‎Peter Obi continued his expression that; “Nigeria always seems to find money to waste on needless lavish spending and political patronage, yet the federal government refused to pay those who patriotically raise the country flag, bring pride to its name, and serve with dedication. That is what is found in a now disgraced country.”

‎The report further portrays that Peter Obi continued by describing the situation as shameful, saying it sends the wrong signal to young Nigerians that “hard work and service are not rewarded.”

‎Again, it was reported that the 64-year old Nigerian Politician and Business man urged the Nigerian authorities to promptly resolve the issue and ensure that athletes are treated with dignity and respect.

‎”When those who serve their country are not treated with dignity, it sends the wrong message to our youth. The Super Eagle and all those who represent Nigeria deserve to be paid promptly and treated with respect. We must do better,” Obi added.

‎On that note, it might interest us to know that super Eagle preparations for the playoff suffered a major setback on Tuesday when the entire squad, including backroom staff, refused to train in Rabat, Morocco, over unpaid allowances and bonuses.
