NDPHC Urges Industrial Firms to Join Eligible Customer Power Scheme

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has urged major industrial and commercial power consumers in Nigeria to take advantage of its Eligible Customer Programme (ECP) to access electricity directly from the company and other generation firms.

In a statement, the company explained that the initiative first introduced in 2017 and revised in 2024 offers large-scale energy users the opportunity to obtain a steady, affordable, and reliable power supply. According to NDPHC, the programme allows approved customers to purchase between 6MW, 10MW, and 20MW of electricity once they secure eligibility status and sign a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

Beneficiaries also enjoy negotiated energy tariffs, flexible pricing, and enhanced supply stability. With more than 2,000MW of idle capacity, NDPHC said it is stepping up efforts to utilize its available generation assets by supplying bulk power directly to heavy consumers. The initiative, the company noted, is part of its broader strategy to tackle liquidity constraints and stimulate industrial expansion.

NDPHC’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, described the scheme as a strategic move to bolster Nigeria’s industrial competitiveness through improved energy access. “The Eligible Customer framework ensures that industries can get reliable and cost-effective power directly from our plants,” Adighije said.

“The experience of Phoenix Steel Mills demonstrates how consistent electricity supply enhances productivity, reduces costs, and strengthens economic value chains.” She added that the positive outcomes recorded by early adopters have encouraged NDPHC to expand the scheme to more industrial clusters nationwide. Current participants in the programme include Phoenix Steel Mills and several other manufacturing companies.
