Halliburton Secures Big Deal for Shell’s Nigeria Gas Project

Global oilfield services giant Halliburton has secured an integrated drilling and completion services contract from the Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), in partnership with Sunlink Energies, for the development of the HI gas field located in OML 144 offshore Nigeria.

The HI project, when completed, is expected to deliver 350 million standard cubic feet of gas per day to the Nigeria LNG (NLNG) plant on Bonny Island, where Shell holds a 25.6 per cent stake.

The gas supply will feed the long-delayed Train 7 expansion of the NLNG facility, currently being executed by a Saipem-led consortium. Production is projected to commence before the end of the decade, according to Shell.

Under the contract, Halliburton will provide a comprehensive range of drilling and completion services, deploying its LOGIX automation and remote operations technology to enhance precision, safety, and efficiency in deepwater drilling.

The company’s Project Management team will coordinate the execution, integrating multiple services throughout the well lifecycle to ensure seamless project delivery.

“This award demonstrates our commitment to delivering integrated solutions that drive performance and reliability in challenging offshore conditions,” said Shannon Slocum, President, Eastern Hemisphere at Halliburton. “Our collaboration with SNEPCo and Sunlink Energies supports Nigeria’s long-term gas development and energy transition goals.”

Halliburton’s extensive operational footprint and technical expertise in Nigeria are expected to play a critical role in achieving the HI project’s production targets and strengthening Nigeria’s position in the global LNG supply chain.
