Community Calls for Rehabillitation Of Ahoada-Abua-Ogonokom waterside road

The people of the Amalem community in the Abua/Odual local government area of Rivers State have called for urgent rehabilitation of the Ahoada-Abua-Ogonokom waterside road that has been in a deplorable condition for decades.

According to them, the road has become a danger spot for Kidnappers and armed robbery activities. Our Correspondent, who visited the area, interacted with some members of the area on the situation. They said the Ahoada-Abua-Ogonokom road, which was constructed since 1975 by the regime of the pioneer governor of Rivers State, Commander ALFRED DIETE-SPIFF, has remained in a bad state with little or no attention on it by successive governments.

They explained that the present Governor, Sininalaye Fubara, on assumption of duty, awarded the road for reconstruction was halted due to the Emergency rule in the state.

One of them and a woman leader of the Amalem community in Abua/Odual local government area of Rivers State, Chief Aku Blessing-Odema appealed to the federal government, especially FERMA, to urgently rehabilitate the Ahoada-Abua-Ogonokom waterside road.

Also speaking, a peasant farmer in the community, Madam Alice Alali described the bad condition of the road as a death trap to both pedestrians and motorists. Madam Alali called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara to come to their aid and reaward the reconstruction of the road abandoned by the construction company during the state of emergency.

Also, a member of the community, Mr Eghuan Carson, lamented the situation whereby multinational oil companies operating in the area fail in the development of their host community.

Mr. Carson emphasized that the Ahoada-Abua Ogonokom waterside road and other basic amenities lacking in the area need urgent government attention. The community therefore appealed to Governor Fubara’s administration to urgently come to their rescue as the road is getting worse each passing day.
