Rivers United Holds Ikorodu City To Goalless Draw

‎Rivers United maintained their remarkable form in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) by securing a 0-0 draw against Ikorodu City in their rescheduled Matchday 10 encounter at the Adokiye Amesiamaka Stadium on Wednesday.

‎Rivers United’s technical manager, Finidi George, deployed the same lineup that triumphed over Black Bulls with a score of 3-1 in their CAF Champions League match in Uyo over the weekend. Conversely, Ikorodu City introduced a new midfield combination featuring Ibifubara Dagogo, Folarin Temitope, and Tomisin Adebayo, with Oparaocha Chidera spearheading the attack.

‎The visitors began the match with vigor, as Chidera tested Rivers United’s goalkeeper Osagie Onisodumeya early on. However, the hosts quickly found their rhythm but were unable to capitalize on their opportunities, leading both teams to head into halftime without any goals.

‎In the second half, Finidi made early substitutions to infuse more creativity and energy into his team, yet the Pride of Rivers could not break the deadlock despite generating several chances. Ikorodu City also introduced fresh players, successfully withstanding the pressure from the home side.

‎With only minutes remaining, Ikorodu’s goalkeeper Michael Atata, made an incredible point-blank save to thwart Rivers United from what could have been the decisive goal. This moment ultimately ensured both teams shared the points.

‎As a result, Ikorodu City has now extended their unbeaten streak to five matches, rising to fifth place in the NPFL standings with 15 points, just two points behind the top four. Meanwhile, Rivers United has moved to 13 points, with two matches still pending
