Super Falcons head coach, Justin Madugu, has revealed that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has granted him a new two-year contract, extending his role until 2027.
This announcement came after the team qualified for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a 1-1 draw against the Benin Republic in Abeokuta on Tuesday, resulting in a 3-1 aggregate win.
“I have been offered a new contract that will take effect from October 1, 2025, and will run until October 1, 2027,” said the head coach, who helmed the Super Falcons to their 10th WAFCON title earlier this year.
He shared his reflections on the match, noting his satisfaction but also some disappointment with the team’s performance in the second half, as the Benin squad gained confidence following their equalizer.
“The draw wasn’t unexpected as we anticipated a tough match. We knew it wouldn’t be easy based on our knowledge of the Benin team,” Madugu commented.

“However, I want to take this opportunity to apologize to Nigerians for not fulfilling their expectations. The Super Falcons always compete under high anticipation regarding results and performances. Sometimes, things don’t go as envisioned, and we wish to frame today’s match in that context,” the 61-year-old continued.
Ashleigh Plumptre opened the scoring for Nigeria with a strong header from Esther Okoronkwo’s corner kick in the 12th minute, marking her debut goal for the Super Falcons.
The Benin team equalized shortly after the break, but the home side kept their composure until the end.
Nigeria’s qualification for the 2026 WAFCON, set to take place from March 17 to April 3, was confirmed despite the uninspiring draw.
