Ademola ‎Lookman Finally Ends Goal Scoring Drought

Ademola Lookman

Ademola Lookman finally ended his scoring drought on Tuesday night, securing his first goal of the season during Atalanta’s 1-1 draw with AC Milan in Bergamo. The Nigerian international’s goal not only earned a point for La Dea but also represented a personal turning point following a challenging start to the season.

‎Lookman had not scored since May, when he netted against AS Roma, and had faced a frustrating period amid off-field uncertainties regarding his future. The forward, who achieved a career-high of 15 Serie A goals last season, had sought a transfer during the summer, which strained his relationship with the club.

‎However, his well-executed goal against Milan — a powerful left-footed strike from a Mario Pašalić assist — served as a reminder of his attacking prowess and composure.

‎This moment was the kind that reestablished Lookman’s connection with the form that made him one of Serie A’s standout players last season.

Atalanta had fallen behind early when Milan’s Samuele Ricci scored following a deflected shot, but Lookman’s equalizer restored momentum and instilled renewed belief in the hosts.

‎Despite numerous opportunities from both teams, neither side could secure a winner, with Atalanta extending their unbeaten streak to nine games in Serie A (W2, D7).

‎For Nigeria, Lookman’s return to scoring is a timely boost ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff against Gabon in Morocco.

‎With Victor Osimhen in exceptional form and Lookman regaining his rhythm, the Super Eagles’ attacking options are becoming increasingly formidable.

‎While Atalanta manager Ivan Jurić may be disappointed with yet another draw — the club’s fifth consecutive one — he can take solace in witnessing one of his key forwards regain his confidence.

‎For Lookman, this goal could signify the beginning of a much-needed resurgence in a season that commenced under a cloud but has the potential to conclude on a positive note.
