NECO Launches Exam Centre in UK to Support Nigerians in Diaspora

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has established its first examination centre in London, United Kingdom (UK) marking a major step in its mission to extend credible assessment opportunities to Nigerians living abroad.

The new centre was unveiled during the Education Matters Conference UK 2025 by NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, in collaboration with Barnfield Education Ltd.

According to Prof. Wushishi, the initiative was designed to assist Nigerian students and adult learners in the UK who have been unable to complete secondary education or obtain equivalent certifications.

“Our goal is to make quality examinations accessible to Nigerians overseas in line with the Federal Government’s policy on inclusive and global education,” he stated in a release on Sunday by NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani.

The project, he added, aligns with the Ministry of Education’s vision of leveraging the Nigerian diaspora as a strategic educational asset.

NECO’s UK partner, Dr. John Ibanga of BEP Education, explained that the new centre provides an alternative route for Nigerian students facing challenges in the British education system, especially those unable to secure the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE).

During a courtesy visit to the Nigerian High Commission in London, NECO officials briefed diplomats on the centre’s accreditation. Commending the move, Ambassador Eche Abu-Obe, Head of Political Affairs, described the initiative as a “timely and commendable step” toward strengthening educational access for Nigerians abroad.
