Citizens has been urged to collaborate with the Corps in creating a safer motoring environment, noting that it is a collective responsibility to reduce road crashes and save lives.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Rivers State Sector Commander, Corps commander Inyang Umoh made this known on Monday, October 20, during a Press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Port Harcourt to flag off the 2025 Ember month road safety campaign.
The Commander explained that the theme for this year’s campaign, “Take Responsibility for Your Safety: Stop Distracted Driving,” was deliberately chosen to tackle major driver-related offenses such as speeding, phone use while driving, overloading, and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Highlighting the Command’s strategy, he listed several measures, including the deployment of personnel across highways, free vehicle checks, motor park rallies, and community town hall meetings to strengthen collaboration with transport unions, security agencies, and stakeholders.
Commander Umoh appreciated the Rivers State Government and Governor Siminalayi Fubara for their continuous support.
He stressed that the Command had recently intensified partnerships with driving schools and NGOs to promote driver education and ensure compliance with vehicle safety standards.
The FRSC Rivers State Sector Commander expressed optimism that this year’s campaign would significantly reduce road crashes, urging motorists to adopt responsible driving habits, especially during the festive season.
