Rivers United Loses To Black Bulls

Mozambican champions, Black Bulls, secured a slim but crucial 1–0 advantage over Rivers United in the first leg of their CAF Champions League (CAFCL) second-round encounter on Saturday.

The lone goal came just five minutes into the second half when Senegalese forward Moctar Diallo calmly slotted home past Rivers United goalkeeper Osagie Onisodumeya at the Campo da ABB Stadium in Maputo. The well-taken finish proved decisive, handing the hosts a narrow victory and an upper hand heading into the return leg in Nigeria.

For much of the encounter, Rivers United struggled to adapt to the challenging pitch conditions, which disrupted their rhythm and build-up play. Despite moments of promise, the visitors failed to convert their chances, allowing Black Bulls to dictate the game’s tempo.

Goalkeeper Ernan Siluane, a key figure for Mozambique’s national team, anchored a solid defensive display for the Bulls, ensuring Rivers United could not find an equalizer. His composure and leadership between the posts kept the Nigerian side at bay throughout the contest.

Attention now shifts to the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, where the decisive second leg will take place next week. Rivers United will need to overturn the deficit to advance to the group stage of Africa’s premier club competition, while Black Bulls aim to protect their advantage and secure historic qualification.
