More than 4,000 people have received medical care through a free five-day medical and surgical mission held at Bishop Elenwo Memorial Hospital, Rumuobiakani, Obio/Akpor LGA in Rivers state.
President of Ogbakor Ikwere USA Canada Incorporated, Patrick Anyawoke, revealed that the initiative began on Monday and was concluded on Friday described the mission as a labor of gratitude to the Ikwere communities.
He said, “We saw up to 1,000 persons a day this program is largely supported by the members, medical mission is something we are passionate about.”
Anyawoke expressed appreciation to the the sponsors particularly Bishop of the Diocese, Rev. Innocent Ordu, for providing the facility, and also thanked Hon. O.K. Chinda (Minority Leader, Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency) and Local Government Chairman Dr. Gift Worlu for logistic support.
He noted, “We are not going to be the ones telling the success stories — it will be those who have actually been treated over a thousand people show up every day a measure of success.”
The Head Administrator of Ogbakor Ikwere USA Canada Inc, Prof. Uchenna Godson Orji, while speaking on the quality of care delivered, said the best theme of medical doctors are the ones in charge.
“I’ve assembled the best of the best from the USA and Canada we have been dealing with patients with numerous medical problems and patients who need surgery like eye and general surgery, we provide all those services, we have not had any issue and that will probably tell you what the accuracy and quality looks like.” Prof Orji said.

Volunteer physician who is also a member of the Ogbakor Ikwere USA Canada Inc, Dr. Ngozi Welle outlined the range of services offered during the mission:
“We are here providing general needs, women’s health cardiology eye care, eye surgery, glaucoma, cataract removal, we also provided glasses. Ogbakor Ikwere is committed to women’s health, we provide clinical breast exam and ultrasound in this mission we were able to scan over 200 women.”
She emphasized the mission’s aim to reduce breast cancer mortality and boost women’s health.
Many beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude, citing free treatments and surgeries that would otherwise have been out of reach. They praised the organizers for giving hope and quality healthcare to underserved communities.
