A disturbing video that went viral on social media on June 20, 2025, showing a woman tearfully alleging she was assaulted by a man who subsequently fled the scene, has sparked a comprehensive investigation by the Rivers State Police Command.

This was made known to The Port City News (TPCN) in a statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, on Friday, October 17, 2025.

Iringe-Koko noted that, acting on the report, operatives from the Human Rights Department at the State Headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, promptly launched an investigation and arrested the suspect, identified as Abi Baragon, a 46-year-old male, on October 13, 2025.

The PPRO said, “Preliminary investigations suggest the alleged assault may have been triggered by the victim’s rejection of the suspect’s marriage proposal, reportedly after discovering he was already married with four children, an allegation the suspect has denied.

“However, during interrogation, he voluntarily confessed to assaulting the victim using bottles and stabbing her.”

According to her, “the suspect is currently in police custody, while the victim is receiving medical treatment at a hospital.

The command also reaffirmed its commitment to justice and issued a strong warning to criminal elements: “There is no hiding place for offenders. Anyone who commits a crime and attempts to evade justice will be pursued and held accountable.

“The suspect will be prosecuted upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.”
