MTN has officially unveiled a comprehensive range of integrated home and mobile connectivity solutions, representing a significant advancement from its earlier “Ambition 2025” strategy. This new approach strongly focuses on the connected home, in line with MTN Group’s broader strategic shift announced by CEO Ralph Mupita during a media briefing in Johannesburg last month.
Mupita explained that MTN’s connected home strategy will be propelled by the growth of both 5G fixed-wireless access (FWA) and fibre infrastructure. To facilitate this initiative, MTN Group intends to acquire additional spectrum in key markets, including South Africa, Nigeria, and Ghana. This investment is anticipated to be a crucial differentiator for MTN, opening new pathways for growth and profitability.
”The potential in the home sector is vast,” Mupita remarked. “We have not fully explored this area yet. With the appropriate spectral assets, we will actively pursue it using FWA, and in some instances, fiber-to-the-home (FTTH). This investment will distinguish MTN and will be vital to future growth and profit opportunities.”
As part of this strategic transition, MTN South Africa has launched its new MTN Sky Premium plans, characterized as a “lifestyle proposition” designed to provide seamless connectivity to households nationwide.

Bertus van der Vyver, General Manager for Postpaid and Home Solutions at MTN South Africa, stated: Connecting the home is fundamental to MTN’s long-term growth strategy. MTN Sky Premium represents the next phase of that vision, merging mobile and home connectivity to offer seamless experiences that keep families connected, productive, and entertained.

Key Features of MTN Sky Premium
The MTN Sky Premium portfolio comprises five unique plans, each providing a blend of mobile data, all-network voice minutes, home connectivity discounts, and premium customer service benefits. The home connectivity aspect includes monthly savings on MTN’s 5G, LTE fixed-wireless, and fiber services, ranging from R50 on the entry-level package to R800 on the top-tier offering.
Premium customer service features differ based on the selected plan and encompass advantages such as prioritized access to call centers and dedicated relationship managers. The data allocations for these plans range from 15GB to 200GB monthly, addressing a diverse array of household requirements.
Current MTN postpaid customers have the opportunity to switch or upgrade to the new Sky Premium plans. Furthermore, those who are already subscribed to MTN Home Internet or MTN Fiber services can benefit from savings of up to R800 per month when they choose to enroll in the Sky Premium offering.
Strategic Outlook to 2030
The connected home represents one of the three strategic pillars in MTN’s vision for 2030. The remaining two pillars are fintech and digital infrastructure. MTN’s aspirations in fintech are focused on its MoMo app, which is anticipated to gain enhanced features and services as the company shifts users from traditional USSD platforms.
In terms of digital infrastructure, MTN is committing resources to the establishment of AI and edge data centers throughout its markets. “We’re investigating ways to engage in the data center sector,” Mupita stated. “AI is a transformative technology that has the capacity to significantly boost productivity. It will be ubiquitous and integral to our infrastructure strategy.”
