Etche Council Boss Pledges Resources for Corps Members’ Safety, Accommodation

The Chairman of Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chief Chima Boniface Njoku, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the safety and welfare of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the area.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Moses Oleghe, at the Council Secretariat in Okehi on Thursday, October 16, 2025, Njoku assured that no resources would be spared to ensure corps members were well protected and supported throughout their service year.

He described the NYSC as “one of the best things to happen to Nigeria,” and emphasised the need for host communities to provide comfort and care to corps members, who are often far from their home states and families.

As part of immediate measures, the LG chairman directed the commencement of construction on a central corps members’ lodge to address accommodation challenges.

He also requested that the NYSC post corps civil engineers to his office to contribute to the ongoing infrastructural development projects across the LGA.
