Rivers Corps Members Donate Equipment To Boost NYSC Activities As Ikwerre LG Chair Reaffirms Support

In a show of appreciation and support to the leadership of Mr. Moses Oleghe, the Rivers State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps NYSC, corps members from the 2025 Batch B Stream II have made donations to enhance camp operations and welfare.

On Thursday, October 9, 2025, the Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS) crew donated 10 rolls of speaker wire and four horn speakers to improve communication and information dissemination during camp activities.

Also, Ikwerre corps members presented an array of kitchen equipment to aid the camp’s catering operations. Their donations included two sets of two-burner industrial cooking gas, two large cooking pots, two giant food coolers, various kitchen utensils, including spoons and sieves, all aimed at supporting the feeding arrangement in camp.

In a similar gesture, corps members from Gokana contributed a grass slasher to help maintain the cleanliness and aesthetics of the campgrounds.

Moved by the generosity and thoughtfulness of the corps members, Oleghe expressed gratitude, describing the donations as a reflection of the positive impact of the NYSC programme in instilling community service, leadership, and selfless giving in Nigerian youth.

“This is a clear demonstration that the NYSC continues to produce responsible and impactful young Nigerians. I thank you all for your commitment, creativity, and contributions towards the betterment of the Scheme.”

The state coordinator pledged to continually prioritize corps members’ welfare, even as he reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that their service year is both meaningful and impactful.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Mr. Charles Wobodo, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to the success of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programmes in the LGA, describing the initiative as vital to grassroots development.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the State NYSC Coordinator, Wobodo said he would intentionally support and promote all NYSC activities within the local government.

The LG boss emphasized his desire to tap into the wealth of knowledge, skills, and professionalism of corps members to advance his administration’s developmental agenda, particularly in the area infrastructure.

“We are not just welcoming corps members as visitors. We see them as strategic partners in development.

“My administration is committed to maximizing their potential and leveraging their skills to drive the transformation we envision for Ikwerre.”

He also highlighted the cost-effectiveness and technical value that corps members bring, noting that their engagement can significantly reduce project costs while maintaining high standards.

The NYSC cord further appealed for the renovation of the NYSC lodge in Ikwerre LGA and the replacement of worn-out mattresses, citing the need for a conducive living environment to boost corps members’ morale and productivity.
