The Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State, has reiterated its commitment to deliver people-oriented and transparent governance, that will bring about infrastructure renewal, educational reform, environmental resilience, and social inclusion across all communities within the LGA.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ engagement recently in Opobo Town, the Executive Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, Barrister James A James declared his administration’s readiness to partner traditional rulers, youth groups, non- governmental bodies, religious organizations, women groups and other relevant stakeholders, to chart a development path anchored on accountability, equity, and sustainability.
According to Barr. James, ” Our mission is to make Opobo/Nkoro, a reference point for grassroots governance that works, where every citizen can feel the impact of democracy in tangible ways”.
The Chairman of Council maintained that his administration has outlined priority projects, including, the grading of internal roads, construction of drainage systems to curb flooding, rehabilitation of primary schools, and recruitment of qualified teachers to improve learning outcomes.
Additionally, Barr. James A James announced that the council under his watch, plans to strengthen healthcare delivery through community outreach programmes, improve sanitation, and establish digital transparency platforms to track budget implementation.
Meanwhile, community leaders, and civic advocates have described the council’s resolve under Barrister James A James, as a refreshing shift towards accountability.
A prominent women leader in Rivers State, and President of Opobo Women Welfare Association( OWWA), Amaopuorubo Felicia Pepple, noted that ‘ Opobo/Nkoro deserved visible leadership that would build both infrastructure and trust. “This declaration is timely and must translate into consistent performance” she stated.

Some Observers also urged the Council Chairman, and his team to back their promises with measurable milestones, urging collaboration with the state government and international development partners, to maximize project impact.
Our correspondent gathered that as Rivers State continues its decentralization push, many view Opobo/Nkoro”s governance under Barrister James A James, the Executive Chairman’s vision as a litmus test for what grassroots leadership can achieve when driven by transparent participation, and development-oriented planning.
