Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has sparked intense public debate after revealing that she introduced her daughter, Simisola, to clubbing and alcohol at the age of 17. The disclosure came during a recent interview with content creator Mr Lilgaga, where Bakare expressed pride in being the one to guide her daughter’s first experience with nightlife.

“I took my daughter to the club for the first time at 17. And I like the fact that in her memoir, she would reference me as the person who introduced her to alcohol and clubbing,” she said.

The statement quickly ignited criticism across social media, with many Nigerians condemning the actress for what they described as reckless parenting. Comments ranged from concerns about exposing minors to adult environments to broader questions about celebrity influence and parenting standards.

In response to the backlash, Bakare took to Instagram to clarify her remarks. She insisted that while she did take her daughter to a club, she did not introduce her to alcohol, stating:

“No pls, I didn’t do Alcohol, only club and it’s just to give her a bit of exposure towards the future. I’m not as bad as you think”.

Despite the clarification, reactions remain divided. Some argue that early exposure under parental supervision could foster openness and trust, while others believe it sets a dangerous precedent.
