The Africa IPv6-Cybersecurity Task Force has called for urgent measures to ensure Nigerians and citizens across the continent reap the full benefits of the digital age. Speaking at the 2025 Africa IPv6-Cybersecurity Secure Tech Summit, held virtually, the task force emphasised that Africa’s digital future depends on accelerating the shift from the outdated IPv4 system to IPv6.
The conference, themed “Empowering Africa’s Digital Future with IPv6, AI, Cybersecurity, Quantum Computing and Next-Generation Infrastructure,” brought together experts, industry players, and policymakers. Participants stressed that adopting IPv6 is vital for scaling internet connectivity, supporting emerging technologies, and strengthening digital resilience.
IPv6, with its expanded 128-bit address system, was described as the foundation for innovations such as the Internet of Things, secure digital networks, and future communication systems.

Unlike IPv4, which faces exhaustion of available addresses, IPv6 offers virtually unlimited capacity to connect devices across Africa’s growing digital ecosystem.
One of the key resolutions from the summit was the endorsement of the Manifesto for Africa’s Digital Renaissance, a strategic framework designed to guide the continent’s digital transformation. The manifesto outlines commitments to build secure infrastructure, integrate digital sovereignty principles, prioritise IPv6 adoption, and ensure inclusive and sustainable development. It also encourages collaboration among governments, businesses, universities, and civil society.
IPv6 Forum President, Professor Latif Ladid, hailed the move as a turning point for the continent, saying it signalled Africa’s intent to shape its own digital path. Co-founder Chris Uwaje added that the manifesto moves the conversation from ideas to concrete action, aimed at delivering a secure and prosperous digital future.
The task force further resolved to conduct yearly progress reviews and maintain a united front in advancing Africa’s technological agenda.
