RIWAMA Suspends State Monthly Sanitation Indefinitely

Rivers State Government has cancelled the monthly Sanitation Exercise re-introduced by the Chairman of the State Environmental Agency, RIWAMA, Mr Samuel Nwanosike.

Addressing newsmen after a close door meeting with Governor Siminalayi Fubara in Government House, Mr Nwanosike said the agency will adhere to the directives given by Governor Siminalayi Fubara who instructed that waste management should be carried out bearing the people’s interest in mind.

“Subsequently we want to use this opportunity to inform the people of Rivers State that the environmental sanitation that is supposed to hold on October 4, is here by put off till further notice.”

“Tackling the issue of refuse management in Rivers State, the governor wants a different approach and to put a human face to make sure the people see true waste management and to give them the best.”

Mr. Nwanosike further appreciated Governor Fubara for providing the necessary support needed by RIWAMA to function effectively.

Also speaking, The Managing Director of RIWAMA, Mr. Ibimina Wokoma while appreciating the Governor for his support called on Rivers People to ensure that they maintain good hygiene practices and clean their surroundings.

“The Environmental Sanitation exercise put off on the advice of his excellency pending when better arrangements have been made doesn’t mean that we should go and sleep.”

“Sanitation is an every day exercise, we urge each and everyone that while we are not observing the exercise you can observe it in your homes. We advice you to still make sure that your refuse are properly bagged.”

Mr. Wokoma added that Governor Fubara has pledged to create bigger and better waste dump sites for effective waste management.
