Obio/Akpor Council Chairman Visits Rivers NYSC Camp, Donates 100 Bags of Rice

The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Gift Worlu, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, visited the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp in Nonwa, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he donated 100 bags of rice to corps members.

‎The visit, which featured a colourful guard of honour mounted by corps members, was received with excitement and cheers. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Worlu said his mission was to identify with the corps members and encourage them as they embarked on their service year.

‎“Ladies and gentlemen, I stand before you today full of joy. I want to appreciate God Almighty and thank all of you for the warm reception accorded us. I told your Camp Commandant I would come here to encourage you. There are a lot of opportunities in our country, and though challenges abound, your generation holds the key to building a better nation,” he said.

‎Earlier, the Rivers State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe, welcomed the local government chairman and commended his generosity and words of encouragement. He noted that Dr. Worlu’s presence had inspired the Batch B Stream II corps members, assuring that his story and kind words would motivate them to give their best in their various places of assignment.

‎Oleghe further pledged that corps members would continue to uphold the core values of the NYSC scheme by promoting unity, service, and national development.

‎Speaking on behalf of the Batch B, stream II corps members, Miss Didia Shulamite in a vote of thanks  lauded Dr. Worlu’s visit and donation. She described him as an inspiration, reminding the corps members that service to humanity remains the highest calling.

‎“We sincerely appreciate your generous donation of 100 bags of rice, which will put smiles on our faces and make our stay in camp more memorable. We pray that God grants you wisdom and strength as you lead the people of Obio/Akpor,” she said.

‎The visit ended with resounding cheers from the corps members, who expressed renewed commitment to serve diligently wherever they are posted.
