‎Sanusi Brings Two Season Goal Drought to an End With Crucial UCL Strike

Sanusi

Zaidu Sanusi came off the bench to net his first goal of the 2023/24 season during FC Porto’s commanding 4-0 triumph over Arouca.

‎Porto showcased their dominance throughout the match, with goals from Samuel Aghehowa, Deniz Gul, Francisco Moura, and Sanusi contributing to the decisive victory for the Portuguese club.

‎Sanusi entered the game in the 68th minute and delivered a remarkable performance.

‎He successfully completed 85% of his passes, created one opportunity, achieved 100% success in tackles, made two recoveries of the ball, and won all of his ground duels.

‎The Nigerian international concluded his impressive display with a goal in the 85th minute.

‎A perfectly timed pass from Alberto Costa found Sanusi unmarked within the box, allowing him to calmly place the ball past João Valido into the net.

‎This goal marked a profoundly emotional moment for Sanusi, who had been out of action for over a year due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury before returning to play in January 2025.

‎Sanusi was on the verge of leaving the club during the summer transfer window; however, new head coach Francesco Farioli opted to retain him, believing that the left-back still had a significant role to fulfill within the team.

‎With his resurgence, Sanusi has positioned himself back in the running for a national team call-up by Eric Chelle in anticipation of the World Cup qualifiers.
